TERPSICHORE DANCE CELEBRATIONS

On March 3rd-6th 2011 JHHA competed at Terpsichore Dance Celebrations at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. It was the first competition of the Season and Dancers did amazing. Especially considering the delay in finalizing many routines as the studio has taken on more Performance and Competition opportunities with JHHA Performance Company and ABDC. This competition had 771 entries and 10 studios competing including Canadian Dance Company, Sean Boutillier Academy of Dance, PSB Dance Academy, JCB danceworks and All That Dance who were among some of our competitors. Jade is incredibly proud of all dancers who all had excellent performances. JHHA had 14 entries took home 8 Overalls, numerous special awards and cash scholarships! Age Divisions – Mini (Ages 9 & Under) Junior (Ages 10-12) Intermediate (Ages 13-15) Senior (Ages 16 & up)

Categories – Solo (1 Dancers), Duet/Trio (2-3 dancers), Small Group (4-9 Dancers), Large Group (10-15 Dancers)

Overalls – Winning an Overall means that dancers scored the highest mark out of all routines (Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Acro, Contemporary, Modern) in that age division in that category. A mighty big achievement.

STARCATCHERS Dance Festival

On Saturday April 9th JHHA competed at StarCatchers Dance Festival at the Sheraton Hotel in Niagara Falls. JHHA’s competitive team and Pre-competitive program competed and finished the weekend with excellent results! JHHA achieved 10 Overalls, numerous special awards and scholarships. JHHA’s Despicable Duo Received the second highest mark of the entire competition. Our J BOYZ was the most awarded group receiving a Diamond Award, Highest of the Session, 2nd Overall Junior Group and Most Entertaining of the entire competition!

Diamond Awards - Routines that received a *Diamond Award scored a 93% or higher from ALL THREE judges.

STARPOWER

On the May 2-4 weekend, Jade’s Hip Hop Academy’s competitive program along with our Pre-comp kids Team and Pre-comp Solo and Trio competed at STARPOWER in the John Bassett Theatre Down town Toronto. It was clear this well-known established American Competition with 59 locations throughout the states was very impressed with the level of talent from all the Canadian studios participating in their International Toronto location. So despite the fact our students scored higher than ever before, many were still in the bottom portion of the top 10 for overalls and some did not even place in Overalls. It was very different experience, a lot of running around between two rooms; the theatre containing the groups and duet/trios and another convention room set up for solos. The chaos was not appreciated but we made it through and it was a fine end to the competition Season.
