JADE JAGER CLARK × TORONTO TEMPO

Choreographer • The Rhythm Section • Toronto Tempo

Helping shape the performance identity of Canada’s first WNBA franchise.

Jade Jager Clark is a Canadian Hip Hop educator, choreographer and entrepreneur who has spent 20 years building a career at the intersection of dance, culture, sport and entertainment. In 2026, that experience expanded into professional women’s basketball as Jade joined the Toronto Tempo as choreographer for The Rhythm Section, the organization’s official dance team.

For nearly two decades, Jade has built her career around authentic Hip Hop and street dance education. Through Jade’s Hip Hop Academy, founded in 2006, she has trained generations of dancers while developing a reputation for performance, education and cultural authenticity.

Her work with the Toronto Tempo represents the evolution of that experience beyond the studio and onto the professional sports stage. As choreographer for The Rhythm Section, Jade contributes to the development of choreography, performance and the overall entertainment experience of a brand-new professional sports franchise.

For Jade, the opportunity is about more than choreography. It is about bringing the knowledge, discipline and cultural foundation developed through 20 years of Hip Hop education into a new professional environment, while helping establish the performance identity of a team from the ground up.

BUILDING THE RHYTHM SECTION

Joining an inaugural professional sports franchise presented Jade with a unique opportunity: to help build a dance team and performance identity from the ground up. From the beginning, the Toronto Tempo embraced a creative direction that would set The Rhythm Section apart, entrusting Jade to develop a team rooted in her expertise—authentic Hip Hop and street dance.

Rather than relying primarily on the contemporary and commercial dance language often associated with professional sports dance teams, Jade brought the depth and diversity of Hip Hop and street dance culture to the professional basketball court. The Rhythm Section's movement vocabulary incorporates Hip Hop Dance, Campbellocking, Popping, Krump, House, Waacking/Voguing and Breaking, creating a performance style that is dynamic, culturally grounded and distinctly its own.

Jade's creative direction extends beyond choreography. It shapes how the team moves, performs and connects with the audience, while ensuring that the energy and individuality of Hip Hop and street dance remain at the centre of the experience. From rehearsals to game day, every performance demands musicality, precision, stamina, adaptability, teamwork and the ability to command a live arena.

For Jade, building The Rhythm Section has been an opportunity to bring two decades of dance education, cultural knowledge and professional choreography into a new space—and to demonstrate how authentic Hip Hop and street dance can create a distinctive identity within professional women's basketball.
